#5 NOTRE DAME STUNNED AT HOME WITH A 16-14 LOSS TO NORTHERN ILLINOIS: Notre Dame was heavy underdogs coming into the game ranked #5 as NIU was unranked.

Northern Illinois Huskies came into South Bend and stunned #5 ranked Notre Dame with a 16-14 upset on Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium.  Despite being heavy underdogs, the Huskies secured the win with a last-minute field goal.  Notre Dame attempted a 62 yard game winning field goal but the Huskies blocked the kick and celebrated on the field.  Notre Dame started strong with a great first scoring drive but Northern Illinois defense shut down the Irish and held them scoreless in the second half.  The defeat dents Notre Dame's playoff hopes and adds to a string of early season upsets in college football, while NIU celebrated one of the biggest wins in program history.
